The Chapter-149 project’s scope included roof replacement, envelope renovations, and PV installation for this historic community library. The library functions as the heart of the South Brookline residential community and these renovations will help to facilitate a long-term approach to maintaining this historic structure. In assessing the existing building, we viewed the proposed roof and envelope improvements as the most effective maintenance investments for a municipal owner who desired a long-term approach to its building stock. The completed upgrades and repairs will help usher this public facility into another 1/2 century of community use. The design utilized a white vinyl roofing membrane to reduce ‘Heat Island Absorption’ and reduce the solar gain within the structure and load on the HVAC and improve longevity of the roofing.
