The Pine Barrens Wilderness Center [PBWC] project is the renovation and repurposing of an existing camp founded by the Sisters of Divine Providence in 1947. The vision for the new ecological center is a campus of regenerative buildings and systems that make it an ecological learning laboratory for campers and staff. Building and systems design will optimize green features and minimize negative environmental impacts and serve as programmatic teaching tools to advance the camp’s educational mission.

The mission is to deliver an engaging educational experience to a diverse population of children that centers on ecology and best practices for living in harmony with nature, and to nurture aware and innovative environmental stewards. The wilderness center will aim to achieve Living Community Challenge certification.
